Books & eBooks
Practical, beautifully printed references written by people who ship.
14 printed books and 67 eBooksSmashing Magazine is an independent publication for web designers and developers — a place where craft, curiosity and community come before the algorithm. Since 2006 we've been collecting the practical, hard-won knowledge of people who build the web, and handing it back in a form you can actually use on a Tuesday afternoon.
Every publication needs a mascot, and ours wandered in carrying books, curiosity and a healthy disregard for corporate seriousness. The Smashing Cat shows up on our covers, in our workshop slides and at the bottom of our newsletters — a small, fuzzy reminder that the web is made by people, for people.
That spirit shapes our editorial voice: warm, direct and opinionated, but never gatekeeping. We write like a knowledgeable friend who's genuinely excited to show you something — and who'll tell you plainly when a trend isn't worth your weekend.
Smashing Magazine is one part of a wider family of things we make for the community: books you can hold, workshops you can attend, a membership that keeps the lights on, and a newsletter that lands in 182,000+ inboxes every week.

182,000+ readersWe answer to the people who read us. That independence shows up in the numbers — and in the fact that we've never put an article behind a paywall.
Smashing Magazine started with two people, a laptop and a stubborn belief that the web deserved better writing. Today it's a small core team working with hundreds of authors, reviewers and workshop coaches around the world.

We're always looking for clear, generous, deeply practical articles from people who've done the work. And if you make something web folks should know about, our readers are exactly the audience you want.
